NICE FOR WHAT?

Okay, guys. First things first. So let's get to the Elephant in the room. I've been gone. I've basically neglected this Blog for a pretty long time now and I'm sorry. But I'm sure you all know how life happens and time flies and you look back and realize that you need to step your game up again. So here I am trying to get back into this writing thing and I hope you're still here to read what I write.

Anywho. I think I might have to start this Post with a little bit of disclaimer. I'm not a fan of compromising what God told me to write about (and I won't), but this might be a controversial one. So if you are a little bit on the sensitive side this might not be for you.

I'm about to reveal some of my darkest thoughts to you and I really pray this helps a girl like me to be comfortable with who she is in Christ.

I'm at a point in my life where I just can't stand it when people tell me: "OMG, Ashley, you're such a nice person...you're such a sweet girl. You're like perfect." I get these kinds of comments a lot but all I have been thinking is ...being nice never really brought me anywhere. I mean nice is good but it's exactly that: only nice. And I've been asking myself: nice for what?

In a world where Cardi B's and Blac Chyna's make it straight out of the strip club to fame and money, the half-naked Instagram models are making business moves with clothing and makeup lines and it's common to be a side chick or the baby momma to some "not ready to fully commit to you, but you're mine"- type of guy. We live in a world where Thots stay winning, so what do I have morals and standards for, if it seems to be working so well for those who don't?

But as for me, I almost lost my footing.
My feet were slipping, and I was almost gone.
For I envied the proud
When I saw them prosper despite their wickedness
They seem to live such painless lives; (... )
Did I keep myself pure for nothing?
Did I keep myself innocent for no reason?
Psalm 73:3-4, 12

This Psalm perfectly puts into words how I felt. I kept myself holy all my life. I've been the good girl all my life. The boring one. The uncool one, to please and honor God and I didn't see the benefit of doing it. So I started questioning everything. I am 24 and Fabulous right?! I'm supposed to live my best life. So certain voices started getting louder, "You need to get out there, Ashley. You need to kiss many frogs before you find your prince. You need experience. You need to date and date a lot. This is the kind of stuff people say. And I started to believe it over the word and the will of God.

All these thoughts are facts, but for us as Christian girls, they are not our truth. Our truth is what God says. Our truth is the word of God and our truth is a lasting truth that is not corrupted. Our truth will lead to peace and love and life. Instead of self-destruction. No matter how hard it may be at times to keep yourself pure and pursue Christ; one thing will last forever and that is the truth.

They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize
1. Corinthians 9:25

The woman in the Bible who reminded me how important it is to live for God no matter what; is none other than Mary, Jesus' Mother. Because she kept herself Holy; God chose her to bring forth the savior of the world. Mary might have thought that she was making this decision for herself or she just did what she thought would be the right thing to do but this seemingly little decision was what qualified her for God to use her In His Story of bringing salvation to this world.

God has a purpose for you, God has a destiny for you and God wants to use you to write His story just like He used Mary. I don't know at what point you are at in your walk with God but if you feel like giving up or like throwing in the towel. If you feel like giving in to temptation and there is just one thing I want to tell you. There is nothing out there for you. Even if it looks like the wicked are winning and their lives are just fine, they are not. the truth is that all the things the world will have you chase after are going to pass away eventually but we are pursuing something that is everlasting. We want everlasting life. We want eternity, and this is why we are good girls. And I believe that good girls are the ones who are really winning.
Let us not become weary in doing good,
for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9
