So, when 2019 happened I didn't have any new years resolutions at all. Because at that point I was just tired of life altogether (lol). I went through a pretty rough time towards the end of last year. I've gotten myself into a dysfunctional relationship, I wasn't in the place God wanted me to be in Church-wise, Uni was the last thing on my mind and my prayer life was basically not existent. I didn't feel like myself and disconnected from God. So all I really wanted was to make it through one day at a time and not think of an entire year that was ahead of me.
But by now I've gotten my act back together and my relationship with God is as strong as never before (Praise God!). I'm seeing things manifest in my life that He promised me years and years ago in this year that I have had no resolutions, more than in all of the years that I have planned every month of my life.
So what I've realized is that it's not about setting goals and placing a deadline on God to fulfill them, it's about trusting that He who began a good work in you will bring it to a successful end(Philippians 1:6). I do believe that God works in times and seasons, yet He is not bound to our concept and idea of time because He is everlasting and what He does? He does out of a mindset that is everlasting. So He is not limited in His thinking. What we need to do is ask God: "what do you want from me in this season of my life?"
The same way you won't see oranges in winter or pumpkins during summer there are specific fruits God wants us to produce in each season.
I believe prophetically that we are entering a new season. The seventh month. The number seven has such a profound meaning in a biblical context. It is the number of completeness and achievement. And so it shall be for us also. The first half of the year is over now. So it's time to reevaluate where we are standing in our walk with the Father and if we're being fruitful.
So here are some ways to make mid-year resolutions and recommit and refocus on God.
1. Write the vision down:
we gotta make it plain sometimes. I'm a writer by nature I have to write everything down because if I don't I can't think straight. There are so many things in our hearts and minds but to put them on paper makes the vision plain. It is also like a testimony that you can go back to whenever you lose focus. Write down all God has laid on your heart that you want to achieve to see the vision clearly.
Then the Lord said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed. Habakkuk 2:2-3 NLT
2. Pray and Fast
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT
3. Take actions:
don't just write down what you want to achieve but write down how. Really plan for the things that you want to achieve. Sometimes we want to do something but we don't have the financial means or the know-how and even if that is the case write it down and ask God to fill in the blanks. Because the action part is your responsibility but the how is on God.
4. Tell someone who can hold you accountable
If I would tell you how quick I can get passionate about something and then drop the idea one moment later you'd think I'm crazy. Sometimes in the heat of a moment, we get so excited about something and tell everyone and by the time they ask us about our projects months later we dismiss them like it's nothing. Tell someone who will hold you accountable to your plans. When God gives you a mission He gives you people who will help you carry the vision. He gives you midwives to push the vision out and birth what God has given you.
